Bubble Pop with Rachel Gilmore

What did you do with your power? (with Kagiso Lesego Molope)

Episode Summary

I am really excited about today’s guest!! Kagiso Lesego Molope is an award winning Indigenous novelist and playwright from South Africa, who currently lives in Canada. She’s an incredibly talented, accomplished writer. But on May 7 of last year, she made headlines for another reason: her bravery, and the cowardice she encountered as a result. See, Kagiso stepped on stage at the Politics and the Pen gala, a glitsy annual fundraiser attended by some of the most powerful people in Canada, and reminded them that children are dying of malnutrition in Gaza. In response, she was heckled, booed and kicked out of the event. We need more people like Kagiso in these powerful rooms, and way, way fewer of the kinds of people who heckled her and kicked her out. Her bravery, her compassion and her lived experiences are just some of the reasons I am thrilled to have her on the show today. We’re going to talk about Gaza, her experience in speaking out, and we’ll also get her take on the racist B.S. that was spewed in the Oval Office about South Africa this week. Enjoy!
